I have been looking for the best places to invest for a few years. You see, I'm not an impulsive person. If anything, I am a little bit obsessive compulsive. I'm also a PhD. level student of mathematics. As such, I am as interested in the mathematical basis of investment trends as I am in the actual moneymaking potential of it. Don't get me wrong, once I understand the best investments, I will go out and make a killing. It is just that I want to understand what I am doing completely before I do it. That is the way my mind works.

Obviously, there is no one best place to invest, but there are several very good ones. The best places to invest depends on what you're trying to do. You can invest in stocks for a variety of different purposes. If you get a hot tip, of course, it can be prudent to invest in stocks. What few people know though, is that the them win it all or lose it all phenomenon is much rarer than the media will make it seem. Most people who invest in the stock market actually are fairly cautious. They put a lot of money into it, and are in it for the long term. They don't want to be reckless with their futures, so they make conservative investments.

My quest to understand the best places to invest involves coming up with a definition of what “best” means. Because I'm a mathematician, I try to define it mathematically. The best places to invest must possess a combination of qualities. They must offer an investment that is as lucrative and as safe as possible. Usually, these traits work in opposition. For example, day trading on the stock market is very lucrative, but very dangerous. Investing in real estate, on the other hand, can take a lot longer to turn a profit but tends to be much safer. Therefore, the best places to invest are a bit elusive. It is hard to find something that combines all the favorable factors equally.

The most important thing to understand is that the best places to invest change from day to day. One week, the securities market might be in great shape. The next week, it might be the housing market. The best places to invest in the short-term change weekly, but even the value of long-term investments is subject to frequent change. Learning about it has definitely been an uphill battle!
